Weekend Survey

In honor of a promise that I made to Danny Kaye, I am going to post my recipe for bacon-cheese fries. Are y’all ready for this? It’s really difficult, so anyone under the age of 8 may not be able to do it.

A casserole dish (as large or small as you like)

Enough frozen french fries to fill the casserole dish

1 lb bacon

Shredded cheese

Fry the bacon and then crumble into small pieces. Follow the instructions on the bag of french fries to cook them as you normally would. When the fries are done, put a layer of fries in the casserole dish, then sprinkle cheese and bacon. Continue this layering process, putting a heavy layer of cheese and bacon on top. You can season to taste (I use Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning). Put casserole dish back in oven long enough to melt the cheese. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy. It goes great with a ball game or party.

Why don’t you share a favorite snack or finger food recipe?

God bless and have a great weekend.

Weekend Survey

There certainly has been a lot of news lately about baseball. Pennant races are heating up and several star players have reached notable milestones.

What is your favorite baseball team and who is your favorite player (current or retired)?

I am a Braves fan and my favorite player would probably be John Smoltz. I love to watch him pitch when he has his good stuff.

A Symphony of Praise–Weekend Survey

Astronomers have recently discovered that the sun sends out magnetic sound waves that are similar in pattern to musical tones. When I read this, I couldn’t help but think of Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth his handiwork.”

It also reminded me of the great Steve Green song, “Symphony of Praise,” which kind of put me in a nostalgic mood.

For this weekend’s survey, tell us about some of your favorite Christian artists from the 1980’s and 1990’s. Perhaps you could share a favorite song or two of theirs. Let me give a couple of mine.

Steve Green: Symphony of Praise, We Believe

Sandi Patti: Morning Like This, Upon This Rock

Larnelle Harris: Amen

I hope you have a blessed weekend.

Weekend Survey

Here in South Georgia, we are currently in the midst of one of the most beautiful spring times I have everseen. The dogwoods, azaleas, wisteria, spirea, plums, pears and redbud trees are breathtaking, and my personal favorites, the daylilies, have yet to begun blooming. In addition, we have a beautiful crop of new calves in the pasture as well as baby rabbits. (Life in the country is great!)

For this weekend’s survey, why not tell us if anything is “springing” near you?

God bless and have a great weekend.

Weekend Survey

I’m getting ready to take the family over to Lake Seminole State Park. It is a very beautiful and relaxing place away from the telephone and pretty much everything else.

We will probably do some swimming, fishing, canoeing and just kicking back and relaxing. Later, we will grill some bratwursts (my boys’ favorite) for supper. Which leads me to this week’s questions.

1.  Where is your favorite outdoor getaway?

2.  What is your favorite grilled food?

The aforementioned location is my personal favorite. St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge (pictured in my header) is a close second.

As far as grilling goes, I love it all, but especially a thick, tender ribeye steak that has been nicely marinated in Dale’s Sauce.

   Have fun and be blessed.

Weekend Survey–Early Edition

I really had good intentions about posting more this week. There were several topics on my mind that I wanted to discuss with you. To be perfectly honest, I have been too busy at times this week to post substantively, and at others, simply lacked the clarity of thought or motivation.

It could be a mild case of “spring fever.” We are in the early stages of what is looking like a gorgeous spring here. The mere sight of azaleas and dogwoods blooming simultaneously is enough to trigger a peaceful, dreamy sort of contentment and apathy that is, at times, hard for me to break out of.

All right now, enough pathetic excuses. On with the survey. I have asked all of these questions before, but it has been so long, that I hope your answers have changed. If not, that’s okay, feel free to leave the same ones. It has been so long that I won’t remember what they were. (I know, I know, I could look them up in the archives, but I lack the motivation. Spring fever, remember?)

1.  What are you reading right now?

2.  What music are you listening to lately?

3.  What is the last movie you saw?

My answers:

1.  The Peacemaker by Ken Sande. (Very insightful so far)

2.  Gold City (Revival)

3.  “Night at the Museum”–a very funny movie.

Feel free to share your answers. Perhaps there are some lurkers who have never introduced themselves on this blog, this would be a wonderful chance to get acquainted.

I truly hope everyone has a blessed weekend.

Weekend Survey

After an extended vacation, Weekend Survey has returned.

This week’s question is related to the previous post concerning the evident realities of life and the ideals of our faith.

Question: How has your perception of God changed since you first became a believer?

Since I was saved as a child, I think both my natural maturation process and my spiritual development have played a part in helping me to realize that God is more than an impersonal, “grandfather” type being. I have learned that He is a very personal, heavenly Father who, just about the time I think I have Him figured out, shows me a totally different aspect of His nature.

Weekend Survey

This coming week is a very special week. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Amidst the travel, turkey and football, let us not forget to take time to be truly thankful.

I am thankful for my salvation, my family and good health.

What are you thankful for?

Weekend Survey

In the past, I have told you about my cat, Marshmallow and her knotheadedness. Yesterday, I told you about my new dog, George.

For this week’s survey, why not tell us about your pet (past or present)?

Hope you have a great weekend.

My wife and I are preparing to go to Calvary, GA, this morning to the Mule Day Festival (yeah, we celebrate mules around here). Our local Baptist association is hosting an evangelism tent and we are going to help. There will be arts and crafts, music, food, old cars and of course a parade featuring local school bands and lots of mules.

What kind of local festival do you have where you live and how do you celebrate it?

Be blessed!
