Weekend Survey

In honor of a promise that I made to Danny Kaye, I am going to post my recipe for bacon-cheese fries. Are y’all ready for this? It’s really difficult, so anyone under the age of 8 may not be able to do it.

A casserole dish (as large or small as you like)

Enough frozen french fries to fill the casserole dish

1 lb bacon

Shredded cheese

Fry the bacon and then crumble into small pieces. Follow the instructions on the bag of french fries to cook them as you normally would. When the fries are done, put a layer of fries in the casserole dish, then sprinkle cheese and bacon. Continue this layering process, putting a heavy layer of cheese and bacon on top. You can season to taste (I use Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning). Put casserole dish back in oven long enough to melt the cheese. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy. It goes great with a ball game or party.

Why don’t you share a favorite snack or finger food recipe?

God bless and have a great weekend.

  1. Favorite snack: PB&J Swirl

Two tablespoons of chilled jelly (preferrably Welch’s grape).
Two tablespoons peanut butter (preferrably smooth Jiff).

Mix thoroughly until smooth. (You can’t see the jelly anymore.)

Serves 1. Best with a large glass of cold milk.

  2. Ummm – sounds delicious. I make something called “nacho fries” you put olives, tomatoes, cheese, bacon and green onions on top of fries. It’s the best!

  3. Texas Caviar baby!

This is one of my absolute favorite TV watching snacks. And you won’t be able to hear your arteries harden as you eat it either!

1/4 bunch chopped fresh cilantro leaves
    1 med-large avocado diced
    2 med tomatoes diced
    1/2 small red onion chopped
1/2 jar of taco sauce (not chunky)
1 can * black-eye peas (or black beans -rinse these well)
1 can niblets or other sweet corn
2 Tbs lemon or lime juice
    2 Tbs red wine vinegar

*(don’t get the kind cooked with pork, too mushy, Hanover brand seems most firm for this.)

Combine all ingredients in large bowl, open bagged chips and stand back lest you be stampeded! This keeps well for 2 days in the fridge and tastes great for breakfast on top of an English muffin. Good stuff.

  4. Pull into parking lot at Backyard Burgers and drive around to the back of the building.

Stop at the little speaker and tell them you want a large sweet tea.

    Pull up to the window.

Hand them however much money they tell you.

Take the sweet tea from them.

Unwrap the straw and insert it into the intersecting slots in the center of the lid.

    Sip and enjoy. 😉

  5. You guys are hysterical!!!

Mission accomplished over at my site. Mexican Corn Salad is up and waiting for your trial. I hope you like it.

My favorite snack is actually a REALLY large bowl of cereal, a REALLY large spoon, a LOT of milk, and the remote. That’ll make me as happy as a clam in the mud!

  6. This is a fish recipe that I learned when I was a young man ?

When fishing in the river you allmost every time catch a mudfish {no not a catfish} so this is a recipe for mudfish?

Take mudfish when you get home ,and after cleaning the other fish , find an old board large enough to place mudfish on it on fish cleaning table , the table must be in sunshine ?

Season mudfish with your favorite seasonings and rub in well ? Lay back on old board untill the mudfish becomes very tender ? By then old board is becoming tender also ? Usually takes several days ?

Then throw fish away and eat the board ???

    Enjoy ?

  7. Brother Ron,

I laughed out loud at your “board” recipe! That’s great!

  8. Gordon,

My clever wife just pointed out the irony between the bacon cheese fries and the name of your website.

Those fries will taste heavenly, but ANTACIDS!!! HERE WE COME!!!

  9. This has been one of the most fun weekend surveys we have had. I’m sorry I haven’t been around to participate in it a little more, but I’m glad everyone is enjoying themselves.

DK tell your wife she’s very funny. 😉
