Afghan Government Looking for Way Out

A recent news release by the Associated Press indicates that the Afghan government may be looking for a way out of the Abdul Rahman situation.

The report indicates that a strong public outcry, coupled with requests from President Bush and leaders in the Catholic Church have caused President Hamid Karzai to reconsider the course his government was pursuing.

It seems that now they are seeking to have Rahman declared mentally unfit for trial. This will give them an “out” in which they can release him while still maintaining a hard-line posture toward converting from Islam. Information from Afghanistan reveals that Muslim leaders there have put intense pressure on President Karzai to make an example of Rahman.

Let us continue to pray and voice our opinion. We know that the first is being heard, and it appears that the second is as well.
